I do notice that doesn’t have as high a voltage swing as I’d like for my hds, but I don’t notice any distortion. Behringer is marketing this as a portable recording interface for musicians, so we want to know how well it works in its intended application.

I believe it’s possible to spend a lot less and not hear a difference in blind testing. Essentially it’s not that difficult to subtract the input to an amplifier from the output while it’s driving real speakers playing real music.
But if you are happy with the sound from your laptop no bad noises, it gets loud enough, etc.
An amp only needs to do at least as good of job as the best DAC. Then have some volunteers stand behind the speakers and swap the cable plugs back and forth at the request of the card-carrying audiophiles doing the listening.

What format if the digital audio meant to be PCM stereo? Once the transient response is clean and free of ringing or being over damped, and if the phase shift is less than about 2 degrees from 50 hz – 10 Khz, the “detail” and “imaging” are probably as good behringeg they’re going to get.
